The Gospel of John- Part 8: John Testifies of Jesus - John 3v22-36// February 22nd, 2026
Teaching overview
Ray Aguilar taught from John 3:22–36, showing that spiritual rebirth is essential to enter God’s kingdom and that baptism is an outward sign of being transferred from the old creation to new life in Christ. He contrasted jealousy, rivalry, and division of the old creation with John the Baptist’s humility—“He must become greater; I must become less”—as a model for joyful, Christ-centered faith. Ray concluded by emphasizing the urgency of belief in Jesus, reminding listeners that choosing not to respond is still a choice with eternal consequences.
Our prayer for your Community
Lord Jesus, thank You for giving us new life and for calling us out of the old ways and into Your kingdom—help us to trust You fully and walk in that new creation. Shape our hearts with humility like John the Baptist, unite us in love, and lead us to joyfully make You greater in every part of our lives.
Group questions and further meditations:
From Old Creation to New Creation
Meditation:
The sermon reminds us that following Jesus is not about improving the old life but receiving an entirely new one. In Christ, we are transferred from the old creation—marked by self, fear, and rivalry—into a new life shaped by grace, trust, and obedience.
Questions:
Where do you still notice “old creation” patterns (habits, attitudes, reactions) showing up in your life? What might it look like to live more fully out of your identity as a new creation this week? How does remembering your baptism (or desire for baptism) shape how you see your daily walk with Jesus?
“He Must Become Greater; I Must Become Less”
Meditation:
John the Baptist shows us a posture of joy-filled humility, finding freedom not in recognition but in pointing others to Jesus. True spiritual maturity is marked by celebrating God’s work—even when it doesn’t center on us.
Questions:
In what areas of life do you find it hardest to “become less”? How does comparison or competition subtly show up in your relationships, work, or faith community? What would it look like to practice humility and joy in someone else’s success this week?
3. The Urgency of Belief
Meditation:
The sermon confronts us with the reality that belief in Jesus is not neutral or optional—it is a decisive response. Trusting Jesus means stepping out of the old creation and fully into the life He offers, without delay.
Questions:
Are there areas where you feel hesitant or slow to fully trust Jesus right now? Why? How does the idea that “not choosing is still a choice” challenge or encourage you? What is one step of obedience or trust God may be inviting you to take this week?
