Vessels Pt 6 - Dying Vessels - 2 Timothy 4v6// October 19th, 2025

Teaching overview

This Sunday, Riley Taylor concluded the Vessels series by teaching that followers of Jesus are called to live and die as vessels—lives poured out in worship to God and service to others. Drawing from 2 Timothy 4:1–8, he urged listeners to live with an eternal perspective, surrender control, and pour themselves out daily for God’s purposes. True meaning, Riley explained, is found not in holding on to life, but in giving it fully to Christ and others.

Our prayer for your Community

Lord, teach us to live each day with open hands—ready to be poured out in love, service, and worship to You. Help us fix our eyes on eternity, finding our meaning and hope in You alone.

Group questions

  1. What part of Sunday’s message convicted, encouraged, or surprised you? (Seek)

Take time to revisit your notes or reflect on what you heard during the teaching. Consider where God might have been drawing your attention—not just what you thought, but what God might have been saying. A helpful practice is to spend a few quiet moments in Lectio Divina—slowly reading the passage of Scripture again, listening for a word or phrase that stands out, meditating on it, and letting it speak to your heart. Before speaking your own thoughts, let the Word speak first and ask that God's presence would join you.

  2. What perspective do I need to change or adjust to come under the authority of scripture?  What action does the text call me to do in light of this perspective? (Practice)
Hearing the word is just the beginning—following Jesus means living in obedience to it. The Spirit often prompts us toward simple obedience, repentance, or renewed action. This is not about being perfect, but about being faithful. What small step could you take this week to practice what was preached?

  3. How can we as a group support you in living out what we’ve discussed this week? (Mission)
Discipleship is not only about inward formation but also outward compassion, and we want to walk that journey together as a community. As we pray for one another and seek Jesus together, our hearts are shaped toward His mission to renew all things. Our group isn’t just for us, but a place where we practice loving each other and live out the Kingdom of God.

For further meditation through the rest of your week…

1: A Life Poured Out

Reflect on how Paul viewed his life as a “drink offering” poured out before God (2 Timothy 4:6).

Ask yourself: What would it look like for me to live this week as an offering—freely giving my time, love, and energy in worship to God and service to others?

2: Surrender Over Control

Paul’s hope was not in worldly approval but in Christ’s appearing.

Pray: Lord, help me release my need to control outcomes or seek others’ approval. Teach me to rest in Your purpose and live for Your “well done.”

3: Living with Eternity in View

Paul lived with confidence in the eternal kingdom that awaited him.

Take time each day to remind yourself: My life is part of something far greater than what I see today. How might seeing your life through eternity’s lens change your attitude, your priorities, or your courage?
