Vessels Pt 3 - Broken Vessels - Psalm 31v10-15 // September 28th, 2025

Teaching overview

Riley Taylor’s sermon titled “Broken Vessels” reminded listeners that brokenness is a universal human experience, not a sign of failure or weak faith. He emphasized that God’s grace both forgives and heals, meeting us in our pain and restoring what is shattered. The message called for cultivating “long trust”—a steady, enduring faith that rests in God’s promises and His ultimate work of restoration.

Our prayer for your Community

Lord, we bring You our brokenness and trust that Your grace can heal and restore what we cannot fix ourselves. Give us endurance to walk with You in every season, and help us rest in the promise that our times are in Your hands.

Group questions

  1. Riley compared God’s restoration to kintsugi—mending broken pottery with gold. How does this image shape your view of God’s ability to redeem the broken areas of your life?

  2. He said that brokenness can be a place of encounter with God. Can you think of a time when hardship brought you closer to Him? How did it change your faith?

  3. Riley reminded us that “our role is endurance; God’s role is restoration.” What helps you endure when life feels overwhelming, and where do you struggle most to trust God with restoration?

For further meditation through the rest of your week…

Mediation 1: Befriending Brokenness

Reflect: Where do I feel most broken right now? Instead of hiding it, can I invite God into that place and trust that He is near?

Scripture: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)

Meditation 2: Grace That Heals

Reflect: Do I believe God’s grace is not only for forgiveness but also for healing my wounds? How might I open myself to His restoring work this week?

Scripture: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

Meditation 3: Enduring Trust

Reflect: When life feels uncertain, am I choosing to rest in God’s hands or trying to hold everything in my own strength? What would it look like for me to practice “long trust” today?

Scripture: “But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hand.” (Psalm 31:14–15a)
