Vessels Pt 4 - Wasted Vessels - Mark 14v3-11 // October 5th, 2025
Teaching overview
Riley Taylor continued the Vessels series by teaching from Mark 14, where a woman pours costly perfume on Jesus as an act of love and worship. Through this story, he contrasted the way of mammon—trusting in wealth, image, and control—with the way of Jesus, who calls us to trust in God’s provision and pour out our lives in generosity and worship. The message invited listeners to examine what they truly value and to live with open hands, knowing that nothing given to Jesus is ever wasted.
Our prayer for your Community
Lord, help us to see the places where we’ve trusted in wealth or control instead of You. Teach us to pour out our lives freely in love and worship, believing that nothing given to You is ever wasted.
Group questions
What part of Sunday’s message convicted, encouraged, or surprised you? (Presence)
Take time to revisit your notes or reflect on what you heard during the teaching. Consider where God might have been drawing your attention—not just what you thought, but what God might have been saying. A helpful practice is to spend a few quiet moments in Lectio Divina—slowly reading the passage of Scripture again, listening for a word or phrase that stands out, meditating on it, and letting it speak to your heart. Before speaking your own thoughts, let the Word speak first and ask that God's presence would join you.
What perspective do I need to change or adjust to come under the authority of scripture? What action does the text call me to do in light of this perspective? (Formation)
Hearing the word is just the beginning—following Jesus means living in obedience to it. The Spirit often prompts us toward simple obedience, repentance, or renewed action. This is not about being perfect, but about being faithful. What small step could you take this week to practice what was preached? How can we as a group support you in living out what we’ve discussed this week? (Mission)
Discipleship is not only about inward formation but also outward compassion, and we want to walk that journey together as a community. As we pray for one another and seek Jesus together, our hearts are shaped toward His mission to renew all things. Our group isn’t just for us, but a place where we practice loving each other and live out the Kingdom of God.
For further meditation through the rest of your week…
1. What Do I Treasure Most?
Read Mark 14:3–9.
Ask yourself: Where am I placing my trust and sense of security— in what I have, or in who Jesus is? Pray for a heart that treasures Jesus above anything else this week.
2. Trusting the Father’s Care
Read Matthew 6:31–33.
Consider the ways worry or striving show up in your daily life. Invite God to teach you what it means to rest in His provision and believe that He knows what you need.
3. Nothing Given to Jesus Is Wasted
Read John 12:1–8.
Reflect on Mary’s act of devotion—what might a “pouring out” look like in your own life? Ask the Spirit to help you live generously and love Jesus with your whole heart.
