The Gospel of John- Part1: The Prologue - John 1v1-18// January 4th, 2026
Teaching overview
Riley Taylor launched a new series for the New Year. A journey through the Gospel of John! He started by asking the foundational question: “Who is Jesus?”. From John 1:1–18, he taught that Jesus is the eternal God who entered our world as light, reveals God perfectly, and invites us to receive a new identity as children of God through belief in Him.
Our prayer for your Community
Jesus, You are the Word made flesh, the light who has come into our darkness—help us trust You and step fully into Your truth this week. Teach us to receive who we are as Your beloved children and to see the Father clearly as we follow You day by day.
Group questions and further meditations:
Jesus Defines Our Reality
Meditation:
John begins by reminding us that Jesus existed before everything else and still reigns over it all. When life feels confusing or out of control, we’re invited to let Jesus—not our feelings, fears, or culture—define what is true.
Question:
Where in your life are you tempted to define reality on your own terms, and what might it look like to humbly submit that area to Jesus this week?
2. Stepping into the light of Jesus
Meditation:
Jesus didn’t come to shame us but to bring light that heals, restores, and drives out darkness. His light reveals what’s hidden so it can be redeemed, not rejected.
Questions:
Is there an area of your life you’ve been keeping in the dark, and what would it look like to invite Jesus’ light into it with trust and honesty?
3. Receiving Your Identity as God’s Child
Meditation:
Being a child of God is not something we earn—it’s something we receive. In a world that pushes us to prove ourselves, Jesus invites us to rest in belonging.
Questions:
What voices most shape how you see yourself, and how can you practice receiving your identity from Jesus instead of striving for it on your own?
